The Hockenheim Circuit hosted the German Grand Prix for the first time in 1970 when the F1 drivers decided at the French Grand Prix to boycott the Nürburgring unless major changes were made. The next year the German Grand Prix went back to the Nürburgring until the 1976 German Grand Prix. From 1977 to 2006, the Hockenheimring hosted the German Grand Prix with the exception of 1985, when the race was held at the reconfigured Nürburgring.

In July 2006, Bernie Ecclestone announced that from 2007 onwards, there would be only one Grand Prix per year in Germany. The German Grand Prix would be shared between the Nürburgring (former home of the European Grand Prix) and the Hockenheimring.

After topping the time charts in each of the three opening practice sessions at Spa-Francorchamps, it came as no surprise to see Audi sweep qualifying for Saturday’s FIA World Endurance Championship enduro.

But with Allan McNish’s Audi R18 e-tron quattro grabbing the top spot, it resulted in a history making pole run for the German manufacturer in the debut of its diesel-hybrid.

The 20-minute session proved to be clear sailing for McNish, who first turned a 2:01.967 before improving to a 2:01.579 on his second flying lap. Both times were good enough for the pole in tomorrow’s dress rehearsal for the 80th annual 24 Hours of Le Mans next month.
Allan McNish scored his first pole at Spa-Francorchamps. (Photo: FIAWEC.com)
“It was quite a big day for Audi because the first qualifying of the R18 e-tron quattro and thankfully we were able to give it it’s milestone first pole position,” McNish said. “It’s something I’m particularly proud of, as Dindo, Tom and I were able to do exactly the same for the R10 TDI, the first diesel-engined car, so it’s nice to have our names linked to that particular.”

“That time with the R10, we were able to go on for its first victory the following day. So hopefully, we’ll be able to do the same thing tomorrow.”

That certainly bodes well for the No. 2 crew of McNish, Tom Kristensen and Dindo Capello, who will be searching for back-to-back FIA WEC victories after their triumph at Sebring.

While Audis slotted in 1-2-3-4 in qualifying, it was the No. 4 R18 Ultra, also making its debut this weekend, that wound up second, thanks to Marco Bonanomi’s 2:02.093 lap time. The Italian edged out the sister No. 3 e-tron quattro of defending Le Mans winner Marcel Fassler by 0.139 seconds.

Loic Duval wound up third in the No. 3 Audi R18 Ultra, which he’ll share with Romain Dumas and Marc Gene, who makes his Audi debut filling in for the injured Timo Bernhard.

Rebellion Racing ended up quickest of the gasoline-powered LMP1 cars in fifth, with Neel Jani storming to a 2:04.234 lap time in his newly upgraded Lola B12/60 Toyota. Danny Watts completed the top-five overall and in class aboard the No. 21 Strakka Racing HPD ARX-03a, which recovered from an accident in Thursday’s practice.

LMP2 saw a first time pole-sitter in John Martin, who took his ADR-Delta Oreca 03 Nissan to the top spot in class. The 2011 Superleague champion turned a 2:09.302 lap time in the car he’ll share with Robbie Kerr and Thor Graves.

The trio finished a respectable fourth in class in its sports car debut at Sebring.

“We took a bit of aero off to make us a bit quicker on the straights and make Eau Rouge a bit more exciting,” Martin explained. “I just sort of hooked a lap. It was not the best [first lap] and then got out of it and went again in Lap 3 and was just enough.”

After topping the time charts early in the session, the No. 32 Lotus Lola B12/80 Judd of James Rossiter settled for second, ahead of the No. 38 Team Jota Zytek Z11SN of Sam Hancock in third. Both cars are running as “wild card” entries this weekend and not eligible for FIA WEC points.

Sebring pole-sitter Olivier Pla took his Oak Racing Morgan Judd to fourth, with the WEC point-scoring No. 31 Lotus Lola-Judd completing the top-five in class.

May 4, 2012 – After a week off, Bellator returns to action and Canada with a moderately significant main card tonight. The bright spots? Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler returns to action albeit in a non-title super fight. In addition, the Bellator season six welterweight tournament rolls on as Ben Saunders and Bryan Baker look to secure a spot in the finals. And Polish heavyweight Damian Grabowski returns to action against ShoXC veteran David Huckaba as well.

What: Bellator 67

When: Friday, the MTV2-televised card begins at 8 p.m. Eastern on Friday. However, Spike.com will carry the entire fight card beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern.

Where: Casino Rama, Rama, Ontario, Canada

Predictions below for the lightweight non-title main event, a welterweight tournament semi-final and two additional main card bouts.

Michael Chandler vs. Akihiro Gono

This is a non-title bout, but it wouldn’t matter. It is extremely improbable (though not impossible) Gono will do anything to Chandler except get dummied. Gono was once a good middleweight, a decent welterweight, but is now only a barely servicable lightweight. It’s MMA, so it’s impossible to rule anything out. Gono, if nothing else, has tremendous experience both in volume and character. But he’s lost his last two (in two different weight classes), is 37 years of age and is incontestably shopworn.

Pick: Chandler

Ben Saunders vs. Bryan Baker

Saunders is a talented welterweight and has the sort of style to give Baker problems. He isn’t as athletic or strong as Baker, but has crisper technique and is offensively aggressive. Even when pushed into defensive maneuvering, Saunders typically does enough to avoid serious damage while posing threats of his own. Baker has a ton of potential, but often lacks focus and can be sloppy. Against Saunders, he’s likely to pay for it.

Pick: Saunders

Ryan Ford vs. Luis Santos

Odds makers have Ford as the slight underdog, but it’s hard for me to have a ton of faith in Santos. Yes, he’s vastly more experienced. Yes, he’s got more offensive tools than Ford. But I do wonder if Ford’s wrestling could trip Santos up, figuratively and literally. I’ll go with Santos here very reluctantly. Neither fighter is going to set the world on fire with a win here, but the odds on this one are close for a reason.

Pick: Santos

Damian Grabowski vs. Dave Huckaba

Not the most amazing fight ever. It’s also one Grabowski should never lose. Huckaba is a journeyman who has spent a considerable amount of time on the Gladiator Challenge circuit. He’s 37 and his last relevant win (if such a thing can be said) came over Ruben Villareal. Grabowski has more than enough submission skills to put Huckaba away early.

Pick: Grabowski

Read More: Bryan Baker (MMA), Luis Santos (MMA), Ben Saunders (MMA), Michael Chandler (MMA), Ryan Ford (MMA), Dave Huckaba (MMA), Akihiro Gono (MMA), Damian Grabowski (MMA), Bellator 67

On the day of confirmation of the Singapore Grand Prix in the 2008 Formula One season, a routemap was published. The pit area of the circuit is located in an empty plot of land off Republic Boulevard and beside the Singapore Flyer. A temporary track leads from the pit area and under the Benjamin Sheares Bridge to Republic Boulevard and turns onto Raffles Boulevard. It then proceeds along Nicoll Highway, Stamford Road and Saint Andrew’s Road around the Padang, past the City Hall.

The track then goes onto the Anderson Bridge, past the Fullerton Hotel and make a tight left turn to Esplanade Drive beside the Merlion Park. It joins Raffles Avenue and cut right after the Esplanade to the front of The Float at Marina Bay and return to the pit area via another temporary road around the Singapore Flyer. The track layout is unique in that in between turns 18 and 19, the cars race underneath a section of grandstand of the Floating Platform.

The track was widely criticized by F1 drivers to be excessively bumpy, particularly on Raffles Boulevard between turns 5 and 7, resulting in a very unforgiving circuit, especially given the hot and humid conditions of the Singapore climate. 2008 World Champions Lewis Hamilton commented that it was twice as hard to negotiate as the more famous Monaco street circuit, and unexpectedly physical – requiring double the amount of energy over a single lap as compared to the Monaco circuit.

May 3, 2012 – NEW YORK — Jon Jones’ murderer’s row of opponents looks like it will resume again during the dog days of summer.

On Thursday afternoon, UFC president Dana White said that the organization was targeting an early September date for the UFC light-heavyweight champion’s next title defense, likely on Labor Day weekend.

The UFC currently has no September 1 show on its official schedule, but if and when it gets added, future Hall of Famer Dan Henderson is on deck in the challenger’s role.

Jones (16-1) has so far successfully run the gauntlet of former champions thrown his way, smashing through Mauricio Rua, Quinton Jackson, Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans consecutively. Add in his February 2011 win over Ryan Bader, and he defeated five top 10 opponents in the span of 14 months.

Jones’ manager Malki Kawa recently told MMA Fighting that Jones preferred to take some time off after his recent stretch of activity, and that he was likely to be ready to fight again in August or September.

Meanwhile, Henderson (29-8) hasn’t fought since last November, when he beat Rua in a fight many have called the greatest bout in MMA history. He’s won seven of his last eight.

Porsche has spent years working on their 911, but while that might be their ultimate sports car, the Boxster is one of their best sellers. It was first seen as a disgrace to the Porsche name, as it was smaller and not as powerful, but once the Cayenne came along, all was forgiven.

The first ever Boxster was introduced in late 1996 as a 1997 model and a 2.5-liter flat six-cylinder engine powered it. Three years later, the new Boxster S variant was introduced with a larger 3.2-liter motor, while the base model received a more powerful 2.7-liter engine.

More changes came in 2003, 2005, and then again in 2007, when the Boxster got some of the stuff from the baby 911, called the Cayman. In 2009, the Boxster models received several new cosmetic and mechanical upgrades that upped the power and performance.

The changes kept coming and the Boxster kept taking them all in. Now the Boxster has been updated one more time and is looking better than ever.

UPDATE 03/14/2012: The Boxster S model lapped the Nurburgring race track in an impressive 7:58 – or about 18 seconds shy of the new, more powerful Porsche 911 which scored an heart-racing time of 7:40.

This speedy lap time means the Boxster S is faster than models like the Corvette C6 (7:59), the Viper SRT-10 (7:59), and the C63 AMG Coupe (8:01) – which are far more powerful than the tiny Boxster. This result also makes the new generation better than the model it replaces which had a lap time of 8:10.

UPDATE 04/02/2012: Porsche has unveiled a new video with Walter Röhrl behind the wheel of their newest Boxster. The video is in German, but you can still enjoy the amazing sound from the car’s engine and the beauty of the Rallye Monte Carlo where the video was shot.

BMW has already stopped taking orders for the 1-Series M Coupe, but the car is still enjoying lots of attention from tuners. In fact, despite the fact we believe the cars needs no updates, there were tons of tuners who didn’t agreed with us and they have find one, or more solutions to improve the sports coupe.

The latest program comes from Vorsteiner who announced a pretty impressive tuning kit will be unveiled on May 19th at Bimmerfest 2012 in Pasadena, CA. All the tuner unveiled until now are some images of the parts of the exterior upgrade package, but because we are talking about Vorsteiner we are expecting great things.

The package will include a new carbon fiber front spoiler with integrated brake duct system, the rear diffuser has been replaced with extended aero fins and signature GTS-V designed splitters, also made in carbon fiber. The tuner is also offering a lightweight boot lid replacement weighing 11.5 lbs. with integrated wing profile element in carbon fiber and a new titanium exhaust system. The car sits on a new set of 19 and 20 inch forged concave wheels.

This is pretty much all we know about this package until now, but we will keep you post it!
